Your Path to Family Harmony

Guiding Families Through Complex Issues

If the parties in a disagreement are even the slightest bit willing, there are not a lot of family issues that can’t be settled by talking things through. It might take awhile but underneath it all, family still matters. The most important key to having a successful outcome is establishing the solid foundation on which the right conversation can take place.

Mediation vs Facilitation

On the surface, mediation and facilitation might look fairly similar in what they’re used to accomplish. There are, however, a few important differences.

Mediation is a formal process used to resolve a dispute when the parties are unable or unwilling to resolve the dispute on their own. Often the parties are not in a relationship nor do they want to have one after the dispute is resolved.

Facilitation usually involves parties who have a relationship, but do not share the same viewpoint. Most of the time there are interpersonal difficulties and a lot of tension in the relationship.

In these instances, the objective of a facilitator, is to listen, guide the conversation, offer perspectives that the parties may not have considered and promote understanding. Once this foundation is constructed, it is often possible to resolve the issue at hand and to repair or restore the personal relationship that was at risk.

Beneficiary & Inheritance Facilitation

With the input and guidance of a impartial third party, it is much easier to navigate the complexities of inheritance disputes and arrive at a fair and amicable resolution.  In the midst of grief and emotional upheaval, issues that would not normally be so important tend to be magnified under the circumstances. Heirlooms become important, Sibling rivalries can surface and, left unchecked, conflict can rise quickly. We’re here to help.

Estate & Trust Administration

Often, family members may disagree, or even resent a parent’s choice of who they want to serve as trustee or personal representative of their estate. Dynamics can enter the picture from a number of different sources and there are so many opportunities to assume the worst when it may simply be a case of poor communication. We excel at facilitating smooth estate and trust administration while minimizing conflict and fostering cooperative decision-making.

Property Dispute Resolution

Since real property is such an integral part of life, there is more than enough opportunity for it to cause major disputes between family members. Complicate it with joint ownership, sharing the family cottage or a myriad of other scenarios and it can become a significant point of contention. We’re highly experience at resolving property disputes efficiently and fairly while staying focused on equitable solutions that respect all parties involved.
